Durante el segundo trimestre del curso 2024-2025, los alumnos de 6.º de primaria hasta 4.º de la ESO del Colegio La Salle participaron en una enriquecedora inmersión lingüística en Whitstable, Reino Unido. Durante una semana, los estudiantes asistieron a clases de inglés y participaron en diversas actividades culturales y excursiones, que les permitieron mejorar su competencia en el idioma en un contexto real y rodeados de hablantes nativos.
El programa incluyó visitas a lugares emblemáticos como Rochester, donde exploraron su histórico castillo; Canterbury, con su imponente catedral y la legendaria Silla de las Brujas; y Londres, donde recorrieron el British Museum, el Big Ben y la tienda más grande de M&M’s, entre otros lugares icónicos. Uno de los momentos más especiales del viaje fue el reencuentro con Simon Tyrrell, antiguo auxiliar de conversación del colegio, con quien los alumnos realizaron una divertida performance del Cha Cha Slide en Covent Garden.
Además de las clases y las excursiones, los alumnos disfrutaron de actividades recreativas como una tarde en la bolera y una experiencia práctica de cocina, donde, junto a chefs profesionales, prepararon y degustaron el tradicional fish and chips. La estancia en familias británicas también fue un aspecto clave de la inmersión, ya que permitió a los estudiantes conocer de cerca las costumbres locales y poner en práctica el inglés en situaciones cotidianas.
El Colegio La Salle cuenta con una larga trayectoria en la organización de inmersiones lingüísticas, reconociendo la importancia de aprender un idioma en su contexto real y comprendiendo que lengua y cultura son inseparables. Language Immersion in Whitstable: An Unforgettable Experience
During the second trimester of the 2024-2025 school year, students from 6th grade to 4th of ESO at La Salle School took part in an enriching language immersion program in Whitstable, United Kingdom. Over the course of a week, students attended English lessons and participated in a variety of cultural activities and excursions, allowing them to improve their language skills in a real-life context while surrounded by native speakers.
The program included visits to landmark locations such as Rochester, where they explored its historic castle; Canterbury, with its magnificent cathedral and the legendary Witch’s Chair; and London, where they toured the British Museum, Big Ben, and the world’s largest M&M’s store, among other iconic sites. One of the most special moments of the trip was the reunion with Simon Tyrrell, a former language assistant at the school, during which students performed a fun Cha Cha Slide dance in Covent Garden.
In addition to lessons and excursions, students enjoyed recreational activities such as an afternoon at the bowling alley and a hands-on cooking experience, where, alongside professional chefs, they prepared and tasted the traditional fish and chips. Staying with British host families was another key aspect of the immersion experience, giving students the opportunity to experience local customs firsthand and practice English in everyday situations.
La Salle School has a long tradition of organizing language immersion programs, recognizing the importance of learning a language in its real context and understanding that language and culture are inseparable. Interacting with native speakers and experiencing their daily lives strengthens learning in a natural and effective way.
